ASPCA Ambassadors are the eyes, ears and heart of our organization.
They are animal lovers, pet parents, rescue workers, volunteers, athletes, authors, musicians, teachers and children. They are people just like you who are making a tremendous difference in the lives of our animal companions. Each month our Featured Ambassador section will highlight the efforts of one of our ASPCA Ambassadors. They've taken their love and commitment to animals to the next level and so can you. Read their inspiring stories below.
Featured Ambassador - Lindsey Jacobellis
Longtime animal lover and snowboarding champion Lindsey Jacobellis has always loved the four-legged kind. Dogs have played an especially important role in her life, and she even pays tribute to her first pet on her racing helmet. Born in Roxbury, Connecticut, Lindsey is well-regarded as one of the top snowboard cross riders in the world. Her older brother first introduced her to the sport in 1996, and five years later, she became the youngest boardercross competitor in the Winter X Games. Since then, she has won multiple titles, dominated the X Games, and has recently become the all-time leader in World Cup victories with a total of 19 wins. In 2006, she won a silver medal during her sport’s Olympic debut in Turin, Italy, and two years later, she was nominated for an ESPN ESPY Award for Best Female Action Sports Athlete.
When she’s not training for the world championship or the 2010 Olympics, Lindsey enjoys watching movies, playing guitar, painting, and making a real difference in the lives of animals. She recently launched a new program called Hats 4 Hounds to raise money and awareness for the ASPCA, an organization near and dear to her heart. During the summer of 2009, she knitted more than 100 one-of-a-kind winter hats, which are for sale for $50, to support the ASPCA and animal welfare. All proceeds from the sale of the hats will go directly to fund the ASPCA’s lifesaving efforts.
As an ASPCA Ambassador, Lindsey is a true inspiration—she’s as an exceptional athlete in a pioneering sport and a compassionate caretaker of our four-legged companions.
